PREVENT YOUR CLOTHES FROM SHRINKING

To prevent clothes from shrinking, follow these tips

:Check Care Labels: Always read and follow the care labels on your clothes. The manufacturer's instructions will provide guidance on the best washing and drying methods to prevent shrinking.Use

Cold Water: Wash your clothes in cold water instead of hot or warm water. Cold water is gentler on fabrics and helps prevent shrinkage.

Wash with Like Colours: Separate your laundry into similar colours and wash them separately to prevent colour bleeding. This also ensures that garments with different fabric types are not washed together, reducing the risk of shrinkage.

Choose Gentle Cycle: Use the gentle or delicate cycle on your washing machine for clothes that are prone to shrinking. This cycle has a slower agitation speed and gentler washing action, reducing the stress on fabrics.

Avoid Overloading: Do not overload your washing machine. Overloading can cause clothes to rub against each other excessively, leading to shrinkage. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for load size.

Air Dry: Whenever possible, air dry your clothes instead of using a dryer. Hang clothes to dry on a drying rack or clothesline, making sure to reshape them as needed. Avoid hanging heavy items on delicate garments, as this can cause stretching.

Use Low Heat: If you must use a dryer, select a low heat setting. High heat can cause fibers to contract and shrink. Remove clothes from the dryer while they are still slightly damp to prevent over-drying.

Reshape and Stretch: After washing, gently reshape and stretch your clothes to their original size before drying. This can help counteract any minor shrinkage that may have occurred during washing.

Avoid Hot Ironing: Avoid using a hot iron on clothes that are prone to shrinking. If ironing is necessary, use a lower heat setting or iron clothes while they are slightly damp to prevent damage.

Pre-Shrink Clothes: Some fabrics, especially natural fibers like cotton, may shrink the first time they are washed. To minimise shrinkage, pre-shrink new clothes by washing them in cold water before wearing.

By following these tips, you can help prevent clothes from shrinking and extend the life of your wardrobe.
