The Art of Folding and Storing
- Shirts and Tops: Lay the shirt face down, fold the sleeves in, then fold the sides toward the centre. Fold in half or thirds depending on drawer height.
- Pants and Jeans: Fold in half lengthwise, then fold in half or thirds. For thicker fabrics like jeans, folding in thirds can save space.
- Sweaters: Lay flat, fold sleeves in across the back, then fold in half vertically and horizontally.
- Socks: Lay one sock on top of the other, fold in half, and then in half again. Avoid stretching the elastic by not rolling them together.
- Group Similar Items: Keep similar items together, such as all t-shirts in one drawer and all workout clothes in another. This makes it easier to find what you need.
- Seasonal Storage: Rotate your wardrobe seasonally. Store off-season clothes in bins or vacuum-sealed bags to free up space.
- Drawer Dividers: Use dividers to keep small items like underwear, socks, and accessories organised and easily accessible.
- Hangers for Specific Items: Use padded hangers for delicate fabrics, wooden hangers for suits, and clip hangers for skirts and pants.
- Avoid Hanging Heavy Items: Heavy sweaters and knitwear should be folded and stored on shelves to prevent stretching and distortion.
- Use Acid-Free Tissue Paper: Place tissue paper between folds of delicate fabrics to prevent creasing and protect from discoloration.
- Double Hanging Rods: Install a second rod below the first to double your hanging space for shorter items like shirts and pants.
- Use Shelf Risers: Add risers to maximise vertical space on shelves and keep items neatly stacked.
- Smooth Fabric Before Folding: Make sure clothes are smoothed out before folding to minimise wrinkles.
- Don't Over stuff Drawers: Overfilling drawers can cause clothes to wrinkle. Leave enough space for items to breathe.
- Shoe Racks: Use racks to keep shoes organised and off the floor. Consider over-the-door racks for small spaces.
- Boot Shaper: Insert boot shaper to maintain the shape of tall boots and prevent creasing.
- Scarves: Fold scarves or hang them on a dedicated hanger or rack.
- Belts: Roll belts and store them in a drawer or hang them on a belt rack.
- Jewellery: Use a jewellery organiser to keep pieces untangled and easy to find.
