Honey Hazard: Sweet Fix for Sticky Stains

Honey may be sweet, but it can leave a sticky mess if spilled on your clothes. Don’t worry—here’s how you can easily remove honey stains and keep your fabrics fresh:

  1. Rinse with Cold Water: As soon as the spill happens, run cold water through the back of the fabric to push the honey out. This helps remove as much of the sticky residue as possible before treating the stain.

  2. Pre-Treat with Dish Soap: Apply a small amount of dish soap directly to the honey stain. Gently rub the soap into the fabric with your fingers, creating a lather. Dish soap works wonders on honey because it breaks down the sticky sugars.

  3. Soak in Warm Water: Let the fabric soak in warm water for about 15 minutes to loosen the honey residue. You can also add a little more dish soap to the water for extra stain-fighting power.

  4. Baking Soda Scrub: For tougher honey stains, make a paste using baking soda and water. Apply it to the stained area and gently scrub with a soft brush or cloth. Baking soda helps lift any remaining honey residue and also acts as a deodorizer.

  5. Rinse and Repeat: Rinse the fabric thoroughly with cold water to remove the soap and baking soda. Check to see if the stain is gone. If needed, repeat the process before laundering.

  6. Launder as Usual: Once the stain is removed, wash the fabric as you normally would, following the care label instructions. Use cold or warm water to avoid setting any sugar residue.

  7. Air-Dry and Inspect: After washing, air-dry the fabric and inspect the area to ensure the stain is completely gone. Avoid using a dryer until the stain is fully removed, as heat can set the remaining residue.

With these easy steps, you’ll be able to wipe away any sticky honey spills and keep your clothes fresh and clean!
