Red Wine Woes on fabrics? No Problem!

Spilling red wine can feel like a nightmare, but with the right steps, you can remove the stain before it becomes permanent. Here’s how to tackle red wine stains with ease:

  1. Blot, Don’t Rub: Start by blotting the stain with a clean cloth or paper towel. Gently dab the area to soak up as much wine as possible. Avoid rubbing, as this will spread the stain and push it deeper into the fabric.

  2. Salt It: While the stain is still wet, cover the area with salt. The salt will absorb the wine, pulling the moisture away from the fabric. Let it sit for a few minutes, then brush off the salt. If the stain persists, repeat this step.

  3. Club Soda Rinse: Pour club soda over the stain, which will help dilute the wine and lift the stain. Let it sit for a few minutes, then blot with a clean cloth. Repeat as needed until the stain lightens.

  4. Vinegar and Dish Soap Solution: For tougher stains, mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with one tablespoon of dish soap in two cups of cold water. Apply the solution to the stain using a clean cloth and gently dab. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes.

  5. Hydrogen Peroxide and Dish Soap Mix: For older or set-in stains, combine equal parts hydrogen peroxide and dish soap. Apply to the stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Blot with a clean cloth and rinse with cold water.

  6. Launder: After treating the stain, launder the garment according to the care label, preferably in cold water. Avoid drying until you’re sure the stain is completely gone, as heat can set any remaining wine.

By following these steps, you’ll be able to rescue your clothes from red wine stains and keep them looking fresh!
