Removing Glitter Glam from fabrics? How to Ditch the Sparkle

Glitter can be fun and festive, but once it gets on your clothes, it seems to stick around forever! Luckily, with a few simple tricks, you can ditch the sparkle and return your fabrics to their glitter-free state.

  1. Shake It Off: Begin by giving the fabric a good shake outdoors to remove as much loose glitter as possible. You can also gently tap the fabric to loosen any extra sparkle that’s clinging to it.

  2. Lint Roller Rescue: Use a lint roller to pick up glitter from the fabric. Roll it over the glitter-covered areas, pressing down firmly to capture the sparkle. For smaller areas, you can use sticky tape, such as duct tape or masking tape, by wrapping it around your fingers with the sticky side out.

  3. Vacuum Power: For fabrics with a large amount of glitter, use the nozzle attachment of a vacuum cleaner. Place the fabric on a flat surface and run the vacuum nozzle over it to suck up the glitter. This works well on thicker fabrics or upholstery that can handle stronger suction.

  4. Hairspray or Static Spray: Lightly spray the fabric with a bit of hairspray or static spray. The sticky residue from the spray will help loosen the glitter from the fabric fibers. Let it sit for a minute, then use a lint roller or tape to remove the remaining glitter.

  5. Wash It Out: Once you’ve removed most of the glitter, throw the fabric into the washing machine. Turn the garment inside out to prevent any remaining glitter from spreading during the wash. Use a regular cycle and be sure to clean out your washing machine afterward to avoid transferring glitter to your next load.

  6. Dryer Sheet Defense: To further fight off static, toss in a dryer sheet during the drying process. Dryer sheets help to repel glitter and remove any remaining stubborn sparkles. Be sure to air-dry delicate fabrics instead of using the dryer to avoid damage.

  7. Repeat if Necessary: Glitter can be sneaky, so check the fabric after washing and drying. If any bits of glitter remain, repeat the lint roller or tape process to capture the last traces of sparkle.

By following these steps, you’ll be able to remove all those pesky glitter particles and keep your clothes looking clean and glam-free!
