Rusty Realities: Clear the Orange Tint

Rust stains are notorious for their strong orange tint, but you can remove them with these steps:

  1. Apply Lemon Juice and Salt: Squeeze lemon juice directly onto the rust stain, then sprinkle a generous amount of salt over it. The acid in lemon juice breaks down rust particles, while salt acts as a natural abrasive.

  2. Sun Exposure: Place the garment in direct sunlight for 1-2 hours. The combination of lemon juice, salt, and sunlight creates a natural bleaching effect to help lift the stain. If sunlight isn’t available, let the mixture sit for an hour.

  3. Rinse Thoroughly: After the fabric has soaked, rinse it thoroughly with cold water to remove the lemon juice and salt residue.

  4. White Vinegar and Baking Soda for Stubborn Spots: If the stain remains, apply a mixture of white vinegar and baking soda to the area and let it sit for 10 minutes. The vinegar’s acidity and baking soda’s abrasiveness work together to lift lingering rust. Rinse well.

  5. Pre-Treat with Laundry Detergent: Apply liquid laundry detergent to the stain, rub gently, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing with cold water.

  6. Wash and Air-Dry: Launder as usual, ideally in cold water, and air-dry to ensure all traces of rust are removed. Check to ensure the stain is gone before using heat, as this could set any remaining color.

This method will help you effectively lift rust stains and leave your fabrics looking fresh!
