Candle Wax Woes: Cleaning Up Spills Without Damaging Silk
1. Let the Wax Harden
- Do not try to wipe the wax while it’s still soft, as this can smear it further.
- Allow the wax to cool and harden naturally, or speed up the process by placing an ice pack over the area.
2. Gently Scrape Off Excess Wax
3. Absorb Residual Wax with Heat
- Place a clean cotton cloth or blotting paper on both sides of the stained area.
- Use a warm (not hot) iron to press gently over the cloth or paper. The heat will melt the wax, and the cloth will absorb it.
- Ensure the iron is on the lowest setting to avoid damaging the silk.
4. Dab with Rubbing Alcohol for Remaining Stains
- If a colored wax residue remains, dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and gently dab the area.
- Test on a hidden part of the saree first to ensure the alcohol doesn’t affect the fabric’s dye.
5. Use a Mild Detergent Solution
- Mix a few drops of mild detergent with lukewarm water.
- Blot the stained area with the solution using a soft cloth. Avoid soaking the saree to protect the fabric’s integrity.
- Rinse with a damp cloth dipped in clean water to remove any detergent residue.
