Handling Perfume and Deo Marks on Silk with Care
1. Blot, Don’t Rub
- Gently blot the stained area with a clean, white cloth to absorb any residue.
- Avoid rubbing, as this can spread the stain and damage the silk’s delicate weave.
2. Rinse with Cold Water
- Turn the saree inside out and gently rinse the affected area with cold water.
- This helps remove surface-level residues without setting the stain further.
3. Treat the Stain with White Vinegar Solution
- Mix one part white vinegar with two parts cold water.
- Test the solution on an inconspicuous part of the saree to ensure it doesn’t cause discoloration.
- Dab the solution onto the stain using a soft cotton ball or cloth, then blot gently.
4. Neutralize Odors with Baking Soda Paste
- Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with a few drops of water to create a paste.
- Apply the paste to the stained area and let it sit for 15–20 minutes.
- Gently brush off the paste and rinse with cold water.
5. Use a Silk-Safe Detergent
- For deeper stains, mix a few drops of a mild, silk-friendly detergent with cold water.
- Blot the stained area with the solution using a soft cloth.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove any detergent residue.
6. Air Dry with Care
- Lay the saree flat on a clean towel to air dry in a shaded area.
- Avoid using direct sunlight or heat, as they can fade the fabric and weaken the silk fibers.
7. Prevent Future Stains
- Apply perfumes or deodorants before wearing your saree, allowing them to dry completely before dressing.
- Consider using underarm shields or liners to minimize direct contact with the fabric.
