Tea & Coffee Troubles: Caring for Silk Sarees with Beverage Stains
Tea or coffee spills on a silk saree can be stressful, but they don’t have to be permanent. With the right techniques, you can safely remove these beverage stains while preserving the fabric’s beauty. Here’s how:
1. Blot the Stain Immediately
- Use a clean, white cloth or paper towel to gently blot the spill.
- Avoid rubbing, as this can spread the stain or push it deeper into the silk fibers.
2. Rinse with Cold Water
3. Apply a Vinegar and Water Solution
- Mix one part white vinegar with two parts cold water.
- Test the solution on a hidden part of the saree to ensure it won’t affect the fabric color.
- Dab the solution onto the stain with a soft cloth and gently blot.
4. Sprinkle Baking Soda for Absorption
5. Use a Mild Detergent Solution
- Mix a few drops of mild detergent with cold water.
- Dampen a cloth with the solution and blot the stain. Rinse with a damp cloth to remove any soap residue.
